Marais Vernier

This room, adorned in green hues, draws its name from a little-known but breathtakingly beautiful region nestled in the heart of the Seine Valley, just across the Tancarville Bridge: the Marais Vernier. This gem of Normandy, spanning nearly 45 square kilometers, offers a mosaic of landscapes and a rare biodiversity.  For nature lovers, amateur ornithologists, or simply those seeking tranquility, the Marais Vernier is an essential destination.

An Ecological Sanctuary

Created by the diversion of the Seine River centuries ago, the Marais Vernier is now one of the largest wetlands in France. Classified as a Natura 2000 zone, it is home to an impressive diversity of fauna and flora. Dozens of bird species have been recorded here, some of which are very rare. Plant enthusiasts will also be delighted by the preserved plant species found in the area.

A Cultural and Historical Heritage

The Marais Vernier is not only a reservoir of biodiversity but also a living witness to the past. Exploring the region, one can discover half-timbered farms typical of Normandy, some several centuries old. Thatch-roofed houses, true symbols of local tradition, add a picturesque touch to the landscape.
A Paradise for EcotouristsThe region and local communities place great importance on preserving this natural heritage while welcoming visitors. Hiking and cycling routes weave through the territory, offering spectacular views of the water expanses, reed beds, and flooded meadows.
